July 22, 2008 (Tunis) - U.S. Ambassador Robert Godec met on July 21 with Abdessalem Jerad, Secretary General of the General Union of Tunisian Workers (UGTT).  In addition to the status of the ongoing social negotiations, the two discussed regional economic development and employment creation.  The Ambassador also answered questions about Iraq and the Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations.

July 4, 2006 (Tunis) - The Crème de la Crème of Tunisia’s political, economic, educational and military spheres joined Ambassador Robert F. Godec to celebrate the 232nd Anniversary of the United States of America at a reception held in the Embassy gardens on July 3. This year’s reception was also attended by an honored American guest, Congresswoman Betty McCollum and her staff, who were conducting a three day visit to Tunisia. The Government of Tunisia delegation was  headed by Prime Minister Ghannouchi. Ministers Ben Abdallah (Foreign Affairs), Zenaidi (Public Health), and Tekkari (Justice and Human Rights), as well as by Mr. Abdelaziz Ben Dhia, Special Advisor to the President also attended.

In his welcoming speech, after the raising of flags and the singing of the American and Tunisian anthems, Ambassador Godec highlighted the excellent U.S.-Tunisian relationship, and shared his thoughts with the audience about this year’s U.S. elections where “Americans will underscore our commitment to the principles of Democracy and Freedom on which our nation is founded. Through our votes, Americans will once again renew the United States”.
